The 13th annual Warbirds over Delaware was an overwhelming success!
I think this was the first time all year that we had four good flying days in a row, although we paid for it on Monday.
Registration totaled 189 pilots, including 108 who pre-registered. They brought 315 Aircraft which they registered.
IMAA District 4 Director Bill Hamby and our AMA district director Bliss Teague were both there and suitably impressed with the organization and quality of the meet.
We had great two full page post-event coverage in Hockessin, Greenville, Brandywine Community News newspapers -- the third consecutive year they have covered us so extensively.
Sixteen vendors set up their displays. Many donated items for the raffles. The Aeroplane Works donated a $400 gift certificate.
The Young Marines donated their services for the 3rd consecutive year.

Other happenings at this years event included the Noon Show with Dave Malchione Jr flying the KingCat and "breaking the sound barrier" as well as an aerial ballet to music as a tribute to Tony Malchione, his Grandfather. Bachhuber and friends flew "the big ones." And of course the fly-overs came during this lull in model flying. The Scouts put on a pig roast feed for the pilots and workers on Saturday evening, with plenty of great food, enjoyed by 199 hungry folks, and there was enough for seconds and more...
With nearly two decades of full-scale airshow piloting experience, Delaware RC Club member Matt Chapman knows how to thrill a crowd. Matt recently debuted his new CAP 580 at the Joe Nall Fly-In held near Greenville, SC. The CAP 580 Matt flies is a fast, French CAP 231EX that spans 24 feet, weighs just 1300 pounds, reaches 240 mph top speed and has a blisteringly fast roll rate of 400 degrees per second.
Matt, a Great Planes sponsored pilot, flies a 35% Carden Edge 540, a 35% Pitts 12, and a Top Gun-quality Ziroli P-51. He has competed in IMAC events several times and plans to attend more, along with any warbird fly-ins that his schedule allows. Futaba is his radio of choice.
We understand that Great Planes will be offering CAP kits in Matt's paint scheme -- in three different sizes.
