Special Heli Event June 15th With Some PIN Restrictions
On Sunday June15th the helicopter side runway will be closed for a helicopter instructional class being given by Todd Bennett and Jason Krause. They are ranked among the top ten heli pilots in the world. They are from California, but will be in the area for sponsored demos at the Maryland Helicopter Association Club fun-fly in the Baltimore/Washington area the prior weekend.
There are eight pilots in the class who will be using channels 14, 27, 30, 36, 38, 42, 44, 57 and amateur channel 03. The first person on the stand-by list would be using channels 20 and 41. Only two will be flying at a time, but with helicopter set up and other related activities channel priority will be given to the class on all the above channels for the day. The class is scheduled to last all day. There will be a manned frequency impound to facilitate the process.
Spectators are welcome, but are asked not to interrupt the instructors and students since this is a pre-paid class and limited opportunity for the students.
The main runway will be open for normal use on all other channels.
The officers and members of the Delaware R/C club extend a warm welcome to our recent new members: Ron Carey, Newark DE; Ton Charest, Dover DE; Rick Cullen, Newark DE; Robert De Jesus, Wilmington DE; William Hollis, Bear DE; Mike Linett, Newark DE; and David and Paul Smith, Elkton MD. Mike is a former Vice President of the Club and returns after a long absence.
As in past years, the June, July, and August Delaware R/C Club meetings will be held at the Lums Pond Flying Field on the first Tuesday of each month, starting at 7:30 pm.
As all our members know, the weather reports for weekends in May were, at best, dismal. Such was the case for the weekend of the Memorial Fly-In, May 3rd and 4th. Nevertheless, early arrivals at the Flying Field on Saturday morning were delighted to find several campers already set up, the Boy Scouts beginning food preparation, and the impound tent being erected. While the mornings were generally windy and damp, each afternoon was marked by steady improvement and the opportunity for all to fly.
On Saturday, 28 pilots registered. Given the weather, this compared very favorably to the registration count of 29 pilots on Saturday at last year’s Memorial. 20 additional registrants on Sunday brought the event total to 49.Because the event was not an IMAA sanction this year, we cannot report a count or breakdown of all the aircraft that were flying.
CDs Dave and Pete Malchione were very pleased with the event this year, in spite of the weather. A number of excellent items were raffled. The 50/50 raffle was won by Paul Gustafson.
