Delaware R/C Fun Scale Contest Scheduled Saturday, June 19th

Lots of fun, plenty of scale, and numerous prizes are the plan for this venerable event. Last year thirteen contestants vied for top honors in pattern flying; let’s try for more this year! CD Tony Albence is looking for volunteers to judge the competition and help with grounds patrol. You can sign up at the June Club meeting or, if you won’t be at the meeting, just report to the field on June 19th.

Two Tonys Wrapup

by John Stare and Carl Hauger

On Saturday May 1st the Delaware R/C Club kicked off its 2004 spring and summer flying season. The weather on Saturday encouraged great flying with a big challenge from a cross wind that all handled well. Sunday however was damp with drizzle and much conversation going on till afternoon when the rain dissipated enough to allow some flying.

This event, “The Two Tonys,” is to honor two men for all they gave back to the world of R/C aircraft, and the clubs that support the hobby. Tony Malchione and Tony Wilford will be cherished in our hearts for all time.

The smoothness of this event is due to the wonderful club members that had things running well ahead of schedule when I arrived. Carl Hauger the gang leader and his bunch of gangsters, Dan Weick, Tony Albence, Bill Bouchard and Dick Stewart. I thank each and every one for the fine cooperation exhibited by all.

First flight honors went to Dick Stewart with his ten or more years old Stinger and Tom LeHart had a full sized electric chicken that flew about the same as a real chicken. The Malchione family showed the new BVM King Cat with the also-new Jet Cat turbine engine. Jr. did the flying while Dad and uncle Pete prepared. Jr. was busy during preparation.

Attendance at the event exceeded 80, of which about 25 were registered pilots for Saturday’s giant scale portion of the Fly-In. At Noon on Saturday we counted 57 cars in the lot. Registered pilots came from Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Virginia.

We were supported by three vendors who attended the Fly-In. Boy Scout Troop 30 supplied the food services which included their traditional offerings of tasty doughnuts and coffee for the breakfast and morning hours followed by their not-to-be-surpassed burgers and dogs for lunch. Joe Patterson’s Sky Blue Hobbies trailer included parts that were needed by a number of the flyers. SKS Video Productions offered its expanding selection of DVD discs and VHS tapes of major R/C aviation events including our own Warbirds Over Delaware.
