As in past years, the June, July, and August Delaware R/C Club meetings will be held at the Lums Pond Flying Field on the first Tuesday of each month, starting at 7:30 pm.
Safety Alert
As we seem finally to be breaking out of the “Seattle” weather pattern and into more than one consecutive day of good flying conditions, Club members are reminded that safety is top priority at the Lums Pond Flying Field. Over the past several weeks, concern has been expressed about several situations that were of questionable or, at least, marginal safety. Please make sure that every action you take at the field features safety as the first consideration. This is a mandate not only of the AMA as our insurer, but also of our hosts, the Division of Parks and Recreation. If you see someone who is not attending to Field and safety rules, please remind them, in a kind and low-key way, to make sure they are aware of and attentive to these rules – not as a policeman, but as a friend. And . . . thanks in advance for your help!
Two Club Members Bring Home Awards In The Matt Chapman Youth Masters
Two of out younger Club members registered to participate in the Matt Chapman Youth Masters, held on June 21 at the Triple Tree Aerodrome in Woodruff, South Carolina (home of the Joe Nall event). Neither of these young men had ever competed in pattern contests other than our Club Fun Scale Contest, yet each is to be commended for flying extremely well against many youngsters, some of whom were seasoned competitors. After four round of competition, Davey Moyer placed third in the Basic class and also was recognized for the most improved score for the event (for which he was awarded a Pitts aircraft). Ryan Jamison placed fourth in the Advanced class. While Davey is eligible for one more year of competition, Ryan will be over the age limit. Hopefully, other youngsters will decide to represent the Club in future contests.
Matt Chapman is also to be congratulated for his association with this
extremely well run and worthwhile event.
Quickie 500 Races Cancelled
CD Skip Crain has announced that the Club’s quickie 500 races have been cancelled for the remainder of the year. Skip indicated that, while pilot participation was adequate and even included some younger Club members, a lack of volunteers was far too low to provide adequate race coverage. Please contact Skip if you have any questions.
Frank Noll Puts On Another Great Show
Even though the New Garden Air Show was cancelled this year because of wind conditions, Frank Noll visited Lums Pond on Saturday, May 31st, and provided those Club members who turned out with a superb day of model precision model flying. This year Frank was joined by his flying partner, Matt Stek. With their uniquely-covered Cardens, the two demonstrated formation flying similar to their show at the Joe Nall earlier in the month. To add to the excitement that day, the Discovery Wings cable channel was filming Matt Chapman at our field for a show to be aired at a later date. We’ll try to give you advance notice of the air date.

Help Keep Us Keep You Up To Date
In order to keep all our members informed of all Club news, it is crucial that the Club remain informed of all changes to our members’ contact information. Please send all changes of address and phone number to our Treasurer, Dick Stewart (302-368-2911 or BALTICPLY@aol.com). E-mail address changes should be sent to John Kirchstein (jakirchstein@comcast.net) and Carl Hauger (cewhauger@yahoo.com).
